What’s next for the Community Center
Residents are invited to share ideas with city officials about future programming at the Hanks Community Center on Wednesday, Mar. 22, 6 p.m. The center is located at 4575 Lake Road.
The Center is currently used for youth activities including Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. Several groups hold art classes for adults. There is also a popular Summer Arts program for children.
Yoga classes meet weekly as do card and knitting groups. In recent years, Monday Morning Coffee was launched for those 50 years or older with activities ranging from information sessions and updates from various government officials and organizations to fun activities like bingo, performances by school groups or professionals or celebrations for various holidays.
Mayor Dennis Bring said the purpose in holding a community discussion about program initiatives is to determine the level of interest in building on existing programs or establishing new ones. “The most important thing is for residents to attend and bring ideas that they have.”
“We may not be able to do everything people suggest, but I believe we should gather ideas to evaluate their potential.” The Mayor has several initiatives he plans to suggest in order to gain residents’ feedback.
