The Lorain County Metro Parks maintains nearly 10,000 acres across Lorain County. Each park offers unique features. One of the recent acquisitions is an area on Harris Road at the southern border of the city. The area contains a good deal of wetlands which are protected by the federal government to preserve wildlife and wild nature. Park officials will determine how best to develop the area, given those restrictions. At this time, it is not open to the public. However, the district maintain other parks a short drive from Sheffield Lake in Avon, Avon Lake, Lorain, Vermilion and Sheffield Village.
