Snow removal
A city-wide snow parking ban goes into effect when snowfall is two inches or more. This includes all residential streets. As residents know, many streets are narrow and getting vehicles off the streets allows plows to remove snow and make turnarounds safely and so they are able to move through the city more quickly. It also assures that residents won’t need to dig out their vehicles when snow depths require street plowing.
Leaf collection
Each fall, service department workers pick up leaves left at the curb. Pick up generally begins in mid-October and runs until December, weather permitting. Please keep these points in mind:
- Leaves should be placed on the tree lawn, not in the street.
- Pile leaves away from storm drains, mailboxes, and parked cars.
- Landscape rocks, bricks and other solid yard debris should be placed in separate piles for pick up on Fridays by Republic Services. This prevents damage to equipment and injuries for workers.
- Leaves not collected by December should be bagged in brown paper yard bags and left at curbside for pick up by Republic Services on Friday throughout the year.
Branches
Branches can be chipped. Leave them separated from leaves and other yard waste. Call 440-949-6259 to request the city stop by to chip them.
Annual street repair/repaving project
Each year, the city sets aside funds to repave and upgrade residential streets. Streets are considered using a collection of formulas which include pavement condition rating, drainage, curbs, lifecycle and current condition. A list is generated in the first quarter of each year and published accordingly. Additionally, the city leverages local funds with federal, state and county funds. These grant programs include Ohio Public Works Commission, Community Development Block Grant Funding and federal programs administered through the Ohio Department of Transportation. These local funds are used to leverage substantial dollars on the bigger infrastructure projects. As an example, in recent years streets such as SR 6, SR 301, Lake Breeze, Harris and Irving Park were rehabilitated with project costs for each averaging $1.5 to $2.5 million per project.
