Meet Chief Andrew Kory
Chief Andrew Kory assumed the role of Chief of Police for the Sheffield Lake Police Department in 2021. Chief Kory’s journey with the department began in 2015, steadily climbing the ranks and demonstrating unwavering dedication to the community. Prior to his promotion as Chief, he held the position of Sergeant, a milestone achieved in 2018.
Emergencies and reporting suspicious activity
If you have an emergency, witness a crime or see suspicious activity, dial 911. For non-emergency situations call the non-emergency line 440-949-7131. The department is open and staffed 24 hours, seven days a week.
Wellness checks
If you or an out of town relative or friend are concerned about a resident you have not been able to make contact with, phone the department and an officer will be sent to check on that person.
Safe drug turn-in
Residents can drop unused prescription and over the counter medications into receptacles in the entryway at the police department. This service is available year-round.
Safety Town
Our youngest residents, ages 4 and 5, may enroll in Safety Town each Summer where they will be taught basic safety skills including recognizing the colors of a traffic signal and what it means to them; bicycle safety; helmet protection; stranger danger; and more. The program is free and a cooperative venture with the local schools and Sheffield Village.
These classes always fill quickly so early registration is urged.
Transaction Safe Zone
The department participates in the county wide Transaction Safe Zone which provides a safe place for persons to show, inspect or purchase items for sale on e-commerce sites such as Craigslist.
Our front parking lot on Harris Road is available for use to you. This parking area is under video surveillance. Please do not use the lot in back of the department.
Meetings should be scheduled during daylight hours. Notifying the on-duty dispatcher that you are meeting in the police department parking lot is not required, however highly suggested for your safety.
It will not be normal procedure for an officer to be present or stand by during a meeting or transaction however individual requests will be handled on a case by case basis, such as transactions involving a large amount of cash.
Sale of guns will not be permitted on police department grounds.
No other service will be offered as part of this program, such as notary service, money counting or counterfeit detection. No items will be checked through any department computer system or data base to determine if they were stolen as the law states these data bases are for criminal justice purposes only. If you have concern that an item you are considering purchasing may be stolen it is suggested you pass on the purchase.
Loitering in the department parking lot is strictly prohibited.
