The City of Sheffield Lake, Ohio is seeking a qualified individual for the position of Part-Time/Full-Time Assistant/Clerk to the Building Inspector

Job Description:

Under the supervision of the Chief Building Official:

The successful candidate will possess superior customer service skills and be a key resource to residents within the city. With the ability to troubleshoot and solve problems this candidate will often be the main point of contact between the building department and the public, residents, city officials and outside contractors.

Responsibilities

– Prepares and maintains building and zoning records

– Pre-Qualifies applications, plans and drawings submitted to the building and zoning department

– Processes zoning applications, building permits, certificates of occupancy

– Schedules Inspections and records results in City software programs.

– Prepares forms and reports for the municipality, as well as County, State and Federal agencies

– Answers questions regarding building and zoning codes, and informs applicants of the option to seek a variance from the Board of Zoning Appeals.

– Logs complaints regarding building, zoning and property maintenance.

– Responds to Emails and phone messages for information and Inspection requests.

– Compliance with training directives established by supervisory/managerial personnel.

– Receives payments for applications, permits, licenses, and contractor registrations, using a virtual terminal when necessary.

Performance, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics:

Good knowledge of municipal building and zoning codes, laws and regulation in the building an zoning field; good knowledge of local municipality including geography and government; ability to interpret maps and blueprints; ability to deal with the public effectively in a fair and equitable manner; ability to work independently without close supervision; initiative; accuracy; courtesy; dependability. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, advanced skills in Word and Excel.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school degree, or high school equivalent diploma. Three years of clerical, or secretarial experience which involved interaction with the general public. Experience in public building and zoning fields preferred.

Hours:

Part-time: 30 Hours per week

Possibility of Full-time: 40 Hours per week

Compensation:

$17.00 – $22.00 per hour depending upon experience, plus benefits
