Planning for the April 8 Total Solar Eclipse

The City of Sheffield Lake is gearing up for the upcoming April 8, 2024 total solar eclipse. Sheffield Lake is in the path of totality – where the moon passes between the Earth and the sun, blocking the sun’s light completely, which is a rare phenomenon. The last time a solar eclipse occurred across the entire United States was 2017. Before that total solar eclipse, the last one visible in Ohio was back in 1806 (218 years ago). The next total solar eclipse won’t be visible in Ohio until the year 2444. Understandably, this rare event will bring many travelers to Sheffield Lake. Experts estimate the population of Lorain County will increase from 315,000 to nearly one million people.
